Who is the new governor of Kirkuk?

SULAIMANI – (ESTA) Rebwar Taha was elected as the new governor of Kirkuk and Mohammed Hafez was elected as the speaker of the provincial council.

In a meeting that was held in Baghdad, five members of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) faction, three members of the Arab coalition and a member of Babylon (Christians) participated. Rebwar Taha was elected governor of Kirkuk and Mohammed Hafez was elected speaker of the provincial council.

In a message, Rebwar Taha congratulated the citizens of Kirkuk and said that “all communities in the city will be served without discrimination.”.

Rebwar Taha Mustafa Ahmad was born in 1982 in the Azadi neighborhood of Kirkuk. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in the same city.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of Education, a bachelor’s degree in law، and a diploma in administration and law.

In 2014, he became a member of the Iraqi parliament and worked on the Corruption Committee. In 2018, he was the leader of the PUK list and became a member of the Iraqi parliament for the second time and deputy chairman of the oil and energy committee.

Rebwa was elected as a member of the leadership council of the PUK at the fourth and fifth congresses.

In the aftermath of the referendum and the events of October 16, he played a significant role in protecting the lives and property of the Kurds of Kirkuk and did not leave the city.

In 2023, as the leader of the Kirkuk Strength and Will coalition, he participated in the Kirkuk provincial council elections and became a member of the provincial council.
