The Iraqi House of Representatives was unable to choose a new speaker

In the second round of voting، none of the candidates for Speaker of the House of Representatives were able to secure enough votes to win the position.

Salem Al-Issawi won 158 votes in the second round of voting to elect the new speaker of the Iraqi parliament; Mahmoud Mashhadani received 137 votes; Amer Abdul Jabbar received 3 votes; and there were 13 invalid votes.

The Iraqi parliament has dismissed the session to elect the new speaker of the council. Also, 311 members of the Iraqi parliament voted in the second round of elections.

“They will go on vacation and then decide whether to dismiss the session or enter another session to appoint the speaker,” First Deputy Speaker Mohsen Al-Mandalawi said.
