SULAIMANI –(ESTA) Iraqi government spokesman, Bassem Al-Awadi said, “The Iraqi government has been successful in managing issues related to relations with the Kurdistan Region and other sensitive issues such as Kirkuk province.”.
The spokesman said, “The government has taken measures to resolve political issues that were part of UNAMI’s mandate, such as border issues with Iran and Turkey, where several important agreements were signed, as well as sensitive domestic issues such as Kirkuk and relations with the Kurdistan Region.”.
Al-Awadi’s comments came on the eve of a statement on the termination of UNAMI’s mission at Iraq’s request and a UN recommendation.
Also, he added that “Iraq now plays a key role in the region and we expect the mission of the UN special envoy to Iraq to be completed by mid-2026.”.
