IHEC: 886 candidates have nominated themselves for the Kurdistan parliamentary election

SULAIMANI – (ESTA) The Iraqi Independent High Election Commission (IHEC) has announced the number of candidates running for the Kurdistan Regional parliamentary election and said they need more than 45،000 employees for polling day.

Jumana al-Ghala، the spokeswoman of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC)، has announced that ‘886 people have nominated themselves for the upcoming parliamentary election، including 277 women and 609 men’.

She explained that “the number will not be considered the final number until after the completion of the investigation of the competence of the candidates and their confirmation by the council of commissioners.”.

Regarding the employees at the ballot boxes، the commission has opened the door for electronic registration، Ghalay said. “The Election Commission needs more than 45،000 polling staff in the provinces.”.

Also، she added، “The draw for the number of coalitions، political parties، and individual candidate lists will be held on Monday، April 8 at the commission headquarters.”.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is scheduled to hold a parliamentary election on June 10.
