SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Metro Center for Journalists’ Rights and Advocacy called on the Kurdistan Parliament to investigate an attack by two guards on an Esta Media Network’s reporter.

Two parliament’s guards attacked Esta Media Network reporter Ayub Ali as he was getting remarks from a lawmaker inside the Kurdistan parliament.

One of the guards threatened the reporter, saying “I will kick you out”.

In a statement, the Metro center called on the parliament’s presidency to “immediately investigate those people who attacked a journalist in front of the head of Kurdistan Islamic Union bloc inside the parliament.”

“We condemn this act, and we call on the parliament’s presidency to not only appear as watchers from the parliament’s windows, and investigate those people,” the watchdog said.

The Metro center further said it was not the first incident taking place in the Kurdistan parliament. In 2017, a group of people also attacked a number of journalists there. NRT reporter Rebwar Kakaiy and his cameraman were attacked with sticks.
