SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi forces detained four Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Kirkuk, Anbar and Saladin provinces, authorities said on Tuesday.
Iraqi Intelligence Service said in a statement that its forces managed to arrest two ISIS militants in Kirkuk province.
“The terrorists … participated in the attack on the Peshmerga forces in 2015,” the intelligence agency added, according to state news agency INA.
Separately, spokesman for commander-in-chief of the armed forces Major General Yehia Rasool said counter-terrorism forces detained two other ISIS militants in Anbar and Saladin provinces.
Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December 2017 but the militants have regrouped in the Hamrin mountain range which extends into the northern provinces – an area described by officials as a “triangle of death”.
