SULAIMANI – (ESTA) Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Mark Straw, US Consul General, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
In a meeting, Dr. Yousef Goran and Dr. Jawan Ihsan, members of the Political Bureau, and Dara Khaylani, head of the Relations Board, were present. The latest political developments were discussed, and the dialogue and understanding between the political parties were emphasized in order to resolve issues and reach an appropriate solution to maintain stability in the region.
The meeting discussed the political situation in Iraq. The PUK president explained the position of the PUK and said, “Our efforts are directed towards the success of the political process and protecting the peace of the country from regional issues.”.
“The issues of the election of the speaker of the House of Representatives are being resolved, and there is a full understanding that the legislature must be made more efficient,” he said.
Regarding the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, President Bafel stressed the need to hold fair elections that reflect the wishes of all political parties and strengthen the structure of the region, not division.
