SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has selected Kamal Atrushi as the minister of natural resources, a spokesman said on Sunday (January 3).

KRG spokesman Jotiar Adil said in a statement that the government had sent Atrushi’s CV to the Kurdistan Parliament for consideration.

“We hope the Kurdistan Parliament will add this topic to its sessions and give confidence [vote] to him,” Adil added.

The Kurdistan parliament is now on recess, but it is expected to hold an extraordinary session to vote on Atrushi’s nomination in the coming days.

A source from the Kurdistan Parliament told Esta Media Network on Sunday that the “Kurdistan Democratic Party has a candidate for the position, who is Kamal Atrushi”.

The KRG prime minister has been managing the position since July 2019 when the ninth cabinet was sworn in.
