Unidentified drones strike Penjwen once again

Smoke rises after Turkish warplanes bomb an area near the village of Sgere in Amedi, northeast of Duhok, May 31, 2022.

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Unidentified drones struck the Kurdistan Region’s Penjwen district once again but no casualties were there, a local official on Thursday said.

Nallparez sub-district of Penjwen east of Suliamnani came under fires of unidentified drones at around 1100 local time, Director of the sub-district Hemn Ibrahim told ESTA.

The drones attacked targets in Badana Village, marking a sequence of attacks since Tuesday, Ibrahim said.

“As far as I know the attacks did not cause any casualties neither from villagers nor from other people,” Ibrahim quoted.

The attacks were similar to Wednesday scenes during which The Turkish drones carried out attacks on targets in the villages of Zardkaw, Xoshkew, Bayana, and Rnena on the other side of the district, Zana Rahman, mayor of Penjwen said.

Turkey usually carries out cross-border air strikes, often with armed drones, in neighboring Iraq as part of its offensive against PKK militants based there.

Iraq regularly decries violations of its sovereignty and has repeatedly summoned the Turkish ambassador over Ankara’s cross-border military campaign.

The Turkish offensive in the Kurdistan Region – particularly aerial bombing – has prompted hundreds of villagers to flee their homes.
