Metro: 249 violations in 2023 were committed against journalists in Kurdistan

SULAIMANI – (ESTA) According to the Metro Center, there were 249 infractions against media organizations and journalists in the previous year.

At a ceremony today in Sulaimani, the Metro Center for the Protection of Journalists’ Rights (MCJR) gave a report on press freedom in the Kurdistan Region in 2023.

The report states that 247 journalists and media organizations in the Kurdistan Region were the targets of 249 infractions.

There have been 134 cases of discrimination and obstruction, 38 cases of confiscating equipment used by journalists, 27 cases of attacks and threats, 5 cases of arrests made in violation of the journalism law, 37 cases of detentions without a court order, 4 cyberattacks, 2 breaches of journalistic equipment, and 2 raids on the homes of journalists.
