SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The anniversary of the passing of the late President Mam Jalal Talabani is scheduled to be commemorated in the Iraqi city of Najaf on Wednesday.
The President Mam Jalal Foundation has announced that a distinguished ceremony will take place in Najaf today to honor Talabani’s passing, recognizing his irreplaceable role in Iraq’s political landscape.
The ceremony will commence at 11:00 a.m. local time and will feature various research presentations, panel discussions, and activities highlighting Talabani’s dedication to the betterment of the nation.
Mam Jalal Talabani, a revered figure symbolizing the pride of the Kurdish nation, served as the first Iraqi Kurdish president and held the position of Secretary General of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).
Due to his deteriorating health, he was transferred to Germany on December 17, 2012, and passed away on October 3, 2017, in Germany.
Mam Jalal’s legacy has left an indelible impact on the Kurdish nation, and his contributions to the Kurdish struggle for autonomy and self-determination continue to inspire future generations.
While his death in 2017 marked the end of an era in Kurdish politics, his ideas and efforts persist in the ongoing pursuit of Kurdish rights and self-governance.
Every year, on October 3rd and onwards, the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and Kurdish communities worldwide unite to remember and pay tribute to this remarkable statesman.
