PUK President, State of Law Coalition Chairman discuss Arbat airport ‘terrorist attack’

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani discussed the Arbat airport “terrorist attack” and Erbil-Baghdad disputes with Nouri al-Maliki, the head of State of Law Coalition, on Wednesday, according to a statement.

PUK’s Talabani who is currently in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, met with Maliki, his office said in a statement.

The two sides stressed cooperation between the political parties in order to overcome the challenges and resolve the issues on the constitutional foundations, the statement said.

During the meeting, the Arbat airport “terrorist attack” was condemned, the statement added.

“Both sides urged the Iraqi government to fulfill its constitutional duties and limit the violations and leave no justification to violate the country’s sovereignty.”

Three members of the Sulaimani-based Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTG) were killed last Monday after a drone strike targeted the small airport of Arbat south of Sulaimani.

In the meantime, Talabani told Maliki that addressing the financial issues between Erbil and Baghdad should be our priority.

“The government employees’ salaries should be out of the political issues,” Talabani said, according to the statement.
