SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Monday urged the Iraqi government to take a stance regarding the Arbat airport drone strike.
“I strongly condemn the drone strike in Arbat. This is another violation of Iraq’s sovereignty through the use of aerial drones against the Counter-Terrorism forces in the midst of their daily training routines,” Talabani said in a statement.
“There is no justification for such attacks on a heroic force of Kurdistan whose task is to protect the security and stability and played a fundamental role in the fight against terror,” he added.
“I urge the related parties in the federal government to take a stance and prevent the reptation of such violations.” “I call on the related parties in the Kurdistan Region to launch thorough investigations to reveal to truth.”
Three members of the Sulaimani-Based Counter-Terrirusm Unit (CTG) were killed and three others wounded on Monday in a drone strike on the small military airport of Arbat in the Kurdistan Region.
The drone entered Iraqi airspace through Turkey’s border, Iraqi military spokesman Yahya Rasool said in a statement early on Tuesday.
Arbat is a small airport used for helicopters and agricuatural planes located 50km (30 miles) to the east of the city of Sulaimani in the northeast of Iraq.
