SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region’s schools are set to begin the new academic year of 2023-2024 next Wednesday, according to a minister.
“Sep. 13 is the date for returning to schools and the beginning of the new academic year,” said Alan Hama Saeed, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Education.
The upcoming academic year coincides with teachers and school staff who suffer from unpaid salaries and claim to announce a general strike.
Civil servants in the Kurdistan Region have not been paid their July salaries yet, suffering serious difficulties.
“Baghdad is responsible,” said the KRG Education Minister on Monday in a press conference.
