PUK President expresses ‘heartfelt’ condolences over death of Karwan Ali Shamar

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani on Saturday released a message of condolences on the death of Karwan Ali Shamar, the son of late PUK leader Ali Shamar.

In his message, Talabani expressed his “heartfelt” condolences, extending his grief and sympathy to Shamar’s Family.

“I pray to god to reduce this pain, may he rest in heaven,” Talabani said.

Karwan Ali Shamar worked as a university lecturer. He died on Saturday’s pre-dawn hours, as a result of a traffic accident in Sulaimani.

Ali Shamar and his family are well-known figures of Sulaimani. They served during the difficult days of the Kurdish struggle against former Iraq’s Baath regime inside the PUK’s armed factions.

Karwan’s late father is one of the iconic leaders of the Kurdish struggle days.
