PUK President carries out multiple meetings with senior Iraqi officials, leaders

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani on Monday met with senior Iraqi officials and leaders in Baghdad.

PUK’s Talabani met with the Head of al-Fateh Alliance, Hadi al-Amiri, to discuss the latest political, economic, and security developments.

During the meeting, Talabani highlighted the Kurdistan Region’s financial entitlements, as well as enduring the national and constructive dialogue, according to a statement released by his office.

“Committing to the constitution is a key factor to preserve the rights of all nations and components of the country,” Talabani said.

In the meantime, he added that “Stability and overcoming the issues depend on cooperation and the parties’ loyal endeavors.”

The pair also called for coordination and further cooperation between the political parties and stressed resolving the Erbil-Baghdad outstanding issues.

Furthermore, Talabani met with the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki.

They shed light on dialogue and coordination between the political forces in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in the direction of a lasting solution to the issues.

Talabani and Maliki also discussed the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people, as well as resolving political disagreements.

“The constitution should be the foundation of resolving the problems,” Talabani told Maliki.

“Real partnership and a common vision to overcome the challenges, will accelerate the steps to build a brighter and more prosperous future,” he added.

Moreover, Talabani on the same day, received the leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, Humam Hamoudi, at Mam Jalal palace.

They discussed the general situation of the country and the latest political changes, the meeting’s readout released by Talabani’s office read.

They also laid emphasis on compromises and real partnerships in a way that safeguards the rights of all components and nations.

In the meantime, the meeting witnessed an emphasis on the “historic” relations between the PUK and the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq.

“We are keenly stepping toward coordination and joint work because we assume that through understanding and cooperation with our friends, we can overcome the challenges,” Talabani said during his meeting with Hamoudi.

Moreover, PUK’s Talabani also carried out a meeting with the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Fayaq Zaidan.

The pair emphasized strengthening the judicial authority, courts independence, and enforcing the law.

They also reiterated their support for the national efforts for the sake of succeeding in the government agenda and resolving Erbil-Baghdad issues.

“Our all efforts aim to terminate the issues and pass the obstacles,” Talabani said.

He also called on the Supreme Judicial Council to play its role in order to safeguard the rights of the Kurdish people and the Kurdistan Region’s financial entitlements.
