SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Flights in the Kurdistan Region’s Erbil international airport, as well as Sulaimani international airport, resumed on Monday after a temporary suspension.
According to a member of the transportation and communications committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Karwan Yarwais, the flights had been suspended as a result of “uncertainty” regarding airspace safety.
“The flights were suspended due to uncertainty regarding the safety of the Kurdistan Region’s airspace caused by drones and unmanned aerial vehicles in the sky,” Yarwais said, citing the Iraqi civil aviation authority as saying.
At around 8:00 pm local time on Monday, both airports said that they had suspended all flights.
There was no immediate clarification.
However, the flights were resumed after nearly three hours of suspension.
