SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani on Wednesday met with commanders and senior officers of the military units.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) in Sulaimani City, according to a statement from his office.
“The general security situation, unification of the Peshmerga forces, and enhancing military capacities of the Peshmerga were highlighted,” the statement said.
“All efforts serve reorganization of the forces and preparing them in the frame of a new structure to build a national strong force,” Talabani said, according to the statement.
“We welcome steps to reorganize the Peshmerga forces on fair and equal foundations,” he said. “We deny any attempts outside of this high goal,” he added.
“Therefore, I call on call Peshmerga commanders and officers to run their duties with utmost loyalty and be in the service of Kurdistan constantly.”
In the meantime, Talabani called on all military, as well as security forces to coordinate and cooperate and be the protecter of the people’s lives.
“The meeting also touched upon protecting the borders, fortifying Peshmerga frontlines, and combating terrorism,” the statement added. “In addition to deep discussions, necessary decisions were made.”
