Sulaimani local security forces detain five IS-linked terrorists

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The local security forces in Sulaimani (Asayish) thwarted the plot of two Islamic State-linked groups, and detained five terrorists on Saturday.  

Asayish in a statement said, “It thwarted the plot of two IS-linked groups who intended to carry out terrorist actions in Sulaiamni, Erbil, and Halabja as well as Garmian”.

“The groups were plotted to assassinate several high-profile people”, and “Implement their evil intention through two different directions,” Asayish said.

In relying upon the intelligence information, the operations units received concrete evidence, that both detained terrorist groups were influenced by Islamic State terrorist ideology through social media platforms, according to the statement.

After the investigation judge’s consent and by the decision of the Kurdistan Region Security Council head and the director of Sualaimani Asayish directorate / the operation forces of the Region’s security institutions, “our forces were able to detain the Islamic State terrorists”.

“The terrorists decided to execute their plots and escape, then join the Islamic State,” It said.

Also, related to the protection efforts of the Kurdistan Region Security, “Many most-wanted terrorists were arrested during past several months and faced prosecutions, but due to the investigations safety and protecting the economic and social security of the region, we retained it as secret”.
