Sulaimani Security forces arrest killer accused of killing artist due to ‘differences in religious opinion’

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Sulaimani security forces (Asayish) on Friday announced the arrest of a killer accused of killing a young Kurdish artist on Thursday.

21-year-old Khwanas Wrya who worked as an artist and theatre actor was fatally shot in the center of Chamchamal town.

The killer has pleaded guilty to the security forces after being arrested, saying he had killed Wrya because of “differences in religious opinion”, according to a statement released by Asayish.

The killer claimed that Wrya’s arts and performances were criticizing Islam.

Wfrya’s family urges justice to be done.

“The case is in the hand of the law currently. We handed it to the law to get justice,” the victim’s family said.

The statement further added that the victim and killer had previously quarreled with each other over the issue.
