PUK President calls on security forces to prevent lawbreaking by strongest means necessary

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani on  Wednesday called on the security forces to leave no space for law infringement by all necessary means.

Talabai chaired a high-level meeting in Sulaimani’s Dabashan area, which was joined by senior security officials, highlighting the rule of law, as well as combating outlaws, a statement released by his office read.

The meeting was attended by the Director of the Protection and Information/Information Agency, the Head of Kurdistan Security Service (Asayish), and the Secretary-General of the Peshmerga Ministry, according to the statement.

In the meantime, the Director-General of the Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG), Wahab Halabaji, the Director of the Operation Department of Asayish, the Peshmerga Intelligence Chief, and the Deputy Commander of the Kurdistan Commando forces.

“During the meeting, they also discussed the latest security developments, including the Kurdistan-Baghdad security collaborations,” the statement said.

“They laid emphasis on unifying efforts for the sake of maintaining the Kurdistan Region’s stability and protecting people’s lives,” the statement added.

Moreover, Talabani called on the security forces to prioritize protecting people’s lives, saying “The security forces should not leave space for law-breaking,” noting, They should prevent such acts by the strongest means necessary,” according to the statement.

“I’m confident that we can all abide by this national responsibility, recording a bright history to our forces,” He said.
