Ministry says it will issue warrant for anyone who carries unregistered weapons

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region Ministry of Interior on Saturday said it will issue a warrant for anyone who carries unregistered weapons.

The Ministry set July 21 as a deadline for citizens to hand over unregistered weapons otherwise it will issue a warrant from the afterward of the deadline for anyone who carries unregistered weapons.

The decision comes amid efforts to crack down on gun crimes that have surged recently as low-priced guns and firearms are still accessible to locals in the black market.

Sulaimani local security authorities have launched a new campaign since Thursday to seize unregistered firearms by installing temporary roadblocks inside the city’s main routes.

According to estimates, 70 percent of the Kurdistan Region citizens possess their own weapons.
