SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi President Latif Rashid on Tuesday arrived in New York City to attend the United Nations 2023 Water Conference, according to a statement.
“The visit comes after President Rashid was invited by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to participate in the UN 2023 Water Conference for Sustainable development,” read a statement from the President’s office.
“President Rashid was accompanied by a delegation, including Iraq’s Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, Minister of Environment, Nizar Amedi, and Governor of Basra, Assad Al-Eidani,” it added.
United Nations 2023 Water Conference is scheduled to take place at UN Headquarters in New York from 22 to 24 March 2023, aiming to mobilize global action for water resilience and security.
The world is currently facing a water crisis driven by overdemand, mismanagement, and the impacts of the triple crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
40% of the world’s population lives in areas affected by water stress, according to official reports.
