SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani on Tuesday strongly condemned the vicious murder of four Kurdish family members in Rojava’s Afrin by the Turkish-backed militias.

“We strongly condemn the massacre of four fellow citizens in Afrin’s Jindires town,” he said in a statement, also calling the relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible.

“Kurds have an unwavering belief in peace and harmony among nations and rebuff all violence and crimes against our citizens under any pretexts,” he added.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. We share this national grief.”

Last Monday, a group of young Kurdish people in the occupied Jindires town in the Afrin countryside of Syria were shot dead by Turksih-backed militias after they had gathered to celebrate the national Kurdish eve of Newroz.

Local sources reported that the town witnessed outrage and protest following the incident on Tuesday.

Newroz falls on March 21 marks the arrival of spring and the new year in Kurdish culture. It is one of the key celebrations in the Kurdistan Region. People will wear traditional Kurdish clothes and go on picnics where they celebrate the occasion with eating foods and dancing.
