IRIS to hold Two-Day Forum in Sulaimani

This year’s event will emphasize three central themes: Iraq 20 Years After the Invasion of 2003, The Impact of the Ukraine War on Iraq and MENA, climate Change and Water Scarcity.

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Institute of Regional and International Studies (IRIS) is expected to formally begin a two-day forum in Sulaimani city on Wednesday with tens of politicians, diplomats, and leaders attending the event.

“On March 15 and 16, 2023, the Institute of Regional and International Studies (IRIS) at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) will host its seventh annual Sulaimani Forum,” an announcement on IRIS’s website said.

“The Sulaimani Forum has become the premier platform for dialogue on the complex policy challenges facing Iraq and the broader Middle East region. As in previous years, the Forum will bring together globally recognized policymakers, diplomats, scholars, and journalists from across the world,” it added.

The themes of the forum, which is set to be held in Sulaimani city at the AUIS University are “Iraq 20 Years After the Invasion of 2003, The Impact of the Ukraine War on Iraq and MENA, and Climate Change and Water Scarcity.”

During the forum, Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani is scheduled to speak, according to the announcement.

The event coincides with new political developments in Iraq, including the formation of a new government in October 2022 after a year of prolonged political deadlock and the emerging climate crises that grasped the country.
