PUK President urges fellow citizens to preserve Kurdish language

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President, Bafel Talabani, on Tuesday extended his congratulations on the occasion of International Mother Language Day, urging fellow citizens to preserve the mother tongue of Kurdish.

“I congratulate all my fellow speakers on World Mother Language Day,” Talabani in a statement said.

“Preserving and advancing the sweet Kurdish language is the factor for survival as a living nation,” he added. “It’s the duty of all of us to preserve it.”

Around 40 million people across the globe are Kurdish language speakers, according to estimates, and mostly inhabited inside a divided homeland of Kurdistan between Turkey, Iran, Syria, and Iraq.
