Public outcry sparks in Erbil as gasoline crisis resurfaces

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The gasoline crisis resurfaced in Erbil, resulting in locals’ outcry despite the costly price, according to Esta Media Network Reporter on Sunday.

Public outrage sparked in the Kurdistan Region capital as for days the city is witnessing gasoline shortage, Esta reporter said.

Among those who mostly suffer from the crisis are Tax and bus drivers, according to the reporter’s words.

Locals slammed the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) as the gasoline crisis has once again resurfaced, saying “In an oil-rich country we must live at the lowest standards of living.”

Nafiz Nawprdani, a member of the Erbil provincial council confirmed the reports on resurfacing the gasoline crisis to Esta Media Network.

“It’s still unclear why the crisis has re-emerged,” Nawprdai told Esta reporter.

Despite the gasoline shortage in the city, the costly price caused in financial burden for the locals who have several times protested and blocked streets to push the government to act.

Currently, one liter of “regular” gasoline in the patrol stations is sold at 1,000 dinars (69 cents). One liter of “supreme” gasoline price is 1,300 dinars (90 cents).

Meanwhile, in recent years, one liter of “regular” gasoline in the patrol stations is sold at 600 dinars (41 cents). One liter of “supreme” gasoline price is 800 dinars (55 cents).
