SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani on Friday met with European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen, calling for support to combat corruption.
Last Thursday, the prime minister arrived in Germany to participate in the annual Munich Security Conference where world leaders address security and military challenges around the globe.
The Prime Minister and the President of the European Commission discussed Iraq-Europe Union relations amid the meeting at the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the Iraqi news agency (INA) reported.
Moreover, the Iraqi Prime Minister reaffirmed Iraq’s willingness to forge advanced development partnerships with EU countries, INA said, citing a statement from Sudani’s office on the meeting.
The prime minister also pointed out the importance of the European Union’s support to the Iraqi government’s efforts “to combat corruption, recover stolen funds, and extradite wanted persons,” according to INA.
Meanwhile, in return, the President of the European Commission expressed her support for Sudani and his reform endeavors.
She also expressed the willingness of all European Union countries to cooperate with Iraq “in light of the long-term partnerships.”
