SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The leader of a prominent Kurdish tribe had survived an “assassination” attempt in Baghdad, a source familiar with the situation told Esta Media Network on Sunday.
Jawhar Agha Harki, the leader of the well-known Harki tribe, had survived an “assassination” attempt in the Iraqi capital last Thursday, the source said.
“An armed force disguised in military uniform attempted to kidnap and assassinate Harki,” it said, adding Harki was due to return to Kurdistan Region via Baghdad airport to Sulaimani after he left Turkey due to the massive earthquake that struck the country last week.
Harki had been raided in his resting place in Baghdad by an unidentified force who attempted “assassination”, according to the source.
However, the “assassination” attempt had been thwarted by a force of the Harki tribe in Baghdad who arrived at the scene immediately.
It also stated, “The unidentified force have had a forged arrest warrant, aiming to kidnap Harki and then assassinate him.”
Harki is due to hold a press conference in the coming days, disclosing the details of the incident to the public.
The source also revealed, Harki had safely returned to Sulaiamni after he had survived the “assassination” attempt.
