Iraq seeks to develop its military, intelligence capabilities in cooperation with friends: President

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Iraqi President, Latif Rashid, on Wednesday in the presidential palace welcomed NATO senior commanders.

The office of the President in a statement revealed that President Rashid received the Commander of the NATO Joint Force Command (JFC) Naples, Admiral Stuart B. Munsch, and Commander of NATO Mission Iraq, Lieutenant General Giovanni M. Iannucci.

In a meeting, the President and the NATO military officials “reviewed the tasks carried out by NATO mission in Iraq, and its role in providing advice and training to the Iraqi security forces for the purpose of qualifying them and raising their military capabilities,” the statement said.

“Iraq seeks to develop its military and intelligence capabilities in cooperation with friends in order to consolidate security and stability in Iraqi cities,” the president said, according to the statement.

“The capital Baghdad and the rest of the Iraqi cities have been witnessing improvement and stability during the last two years, which contributes to the success of the government’s program,” he said.

The President also referred to “improving relations between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG),” it added.

In the meantime, President Rashid praised “NATO’s positions in support of Iraq in its war against terrorism and its role in the framework of military capacity-building programs and the provision of security consultations.”
