SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Bafel Talabani, on Thursday, “strongly” condemned the fatal attack on a Kurdish family in Turkey.
Five citizens of the Kurdistan Region were found murdered in Turkey’s Mardin province on the Artuklu-Nusaybin highway in the Yenikoy district.
The incident took place during Thursday’s pre-dawn hours during which a Kurdish family consisting of five individuals came under a fatal armed attack by several unidentified gunmen.
Talabani “strongly” condemned the attack and expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the victims, he said in a statement.
He also called on the related authorities in Turkey to launch “serious” investigations into the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The gunmen savagely shot the Kurdish family dead, killing four of them, and leaving one with severe injuries who later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. All of them had been shot in their head, local reports said.
Police discovered the bodies of the Kurdish family inside their SUV vehicle which they were traveling with. The victims were aged between 39 to 75 years old and from Kurdistan’s Duhok, Badinan area, Esta has learned.
In the meantime, The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister, Qubad Talabani, expressed grieved condolences and called on the Turkish authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice “as soon as possible”.
“We demand the Turkish government to reveal the truth of the incident,” he said.
