SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan President (PUK), Bafel Talabani, met with the high council of the veteran Peshmergas association, in Sulaimani, on Saturday.
In a meeting, the participants discussed the duties and responsibilities of the association to serve the veteran members of the Peshmerga, Talabani’s office in a statement said.
The meeting also touched upon the obstacles before the association that impede function.
The association handed a report to President Talabani, calling him to initiate a “serious” investigation into the issues, the office in the statement added.
Moreover, in return, Talabani praised the role of the veteran Peshmergas in the different stages of the Kurdish struggle for independence.
“You are the pride of Kurdistan. The history of your struggle will remain shining forever and we consider ourselves indebted to you,” Talabani told the veterans.
The President also promised to resolve their issues by forming a dedicated committee, according to the statement.
“We promise you that we will correct this wrong path of governance,” Talabani added.
The meeting further touched upon the political developments of the Kurdistan Region and the “bad” situation of the Region’s governance.
“We will be a continuer of a policy that meets the people’s demands and is in the service of the public,” The president said. “The glory and pride of this nation are sacred to us and we will not allow its fate to be played with.”
