Sulaimani, Halabja provinces generated eight billion dinars in week: Shafafiat

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Sulaimani and Halabja provinces have generated eight billion Iraqi Dinars from non-oil sources of income during the first week of 2023, data have shown via Shafafiat webpage.

In December, Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani launched Shafafiat.com, a web page that means “transparency”.

Back then, Talabani said that the “Shafafiat web page aims to promote transparency, and it is the backbone of building trust between citizens and the authority,” he said.

The web page provides the citizens with the latest updates regarding non-oil revenues of Sulaimani province and Halabja, disclosing all of them to the public.

Between December 31st of 2022 and January 6th, 2023, Sulaimani and Halabja including all of its other administrations, have generated 8.8 billion Iraqi Dinars.

“We will show in practice that Sulaimani is in a safe hand,” and “we have nothing to hide. Anyone with a clear background will not be afraid of the people to be held accountable,” said Talabani in a 3-minute-long video, unveiling the shafafiat.com web page.

It’s been more than a year since Sulaimani has faced “punishment” from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), rejecting to allocate funds for the service projects, according to local officials.

However, the KRG has also blamed Sulaimani officials for allegedly not being transparent in the revenue of the provinces.

In response to the KRG’s “accusations,” the Deputy Prime Minister initiated the shafafiat.com web page.
