SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has invited Iraq’s Prime Minister to visit Ankara, the state news agency (INA) on Friday reported.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani received an invitation from Erdogan to visit Ankara, INA cited a statement from the primer’s office as saying.
The Prime Minister received the invitation from the Turkish ambassador to Iraq, Ali Reda Konay, amid a meeting in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, according to INA.
Moreover, in return, Sudani promised to accept the invitation as soon as possible, INA reported.
Meanwhile, in the letter, the Turkish President expressed his desire to resume the meetings of the Iraqi-Turkish Strategic Cooperation Council.
Throughout 2022, Baghdad-Ankara relations witnessed tension as a result of mounting attacks by the Turkish military deep into the territory of Iraq to target the Kurdish militant groups.
While in return, the Turkish military bases inside Iraq came under attack several times by Shiite militia groups who stand against the Turkish military presence on their territory.
Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repeatedly summoned the Turkish Ambassador over the continued offensives against the Kurdish militant groups.
