SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, on Saturday, extended his warmest congratulations to the Christians on the occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ.
“On the occasion of Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ, I offer my warmest congratulations to all of the Christians of Iraq, Kurdistan, and the world,” Talabani in a message said.
In the message, Talabani also highlighted the peaceful coexistence of the different components in Kurdistan.
“The religious occasions are an important opportunity to endure and strengthen the brotherhood and spirit of peaceful coexistence between the different components of Kurdistan and Iraq,” he said.
“Kurdistan is proud of being a stunning example of brotherhood and coexistence throughout history,” he added.
The President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Bafel Talabani, also congratulated Christians on the occasion and wished to move toward a brighter future.
“Merry Christmas to all of my Christian brothers and sisters, and I wish you happiness and prosperity,” the PUK President said.
“Unity and coexistence have a long history in the Kurdistan Region, and Christians, as an indigenous community of our country, have played an important and influential role in deepening the spirit of tolerance and reconciliation,” he added.
The President also noted, “That is why we celebrate this holiday with our Christian brothers and sisters and we all hopefully move toward a brighter future.”
