Iraqi Prime Minister assures PUK President that rights of Kurdistan Region to be protected

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani met with Prime Minister of Iraq Mohammed Shia al Sudani in Baghdad on Saturday.

In a meeting, Talabani and Sudani discussed the latest political changes with the social, security, and economic issues as well, according to a statement from Talabani’s office.

During the meeting, the pair stressed supporting the government’s efforts to implement its agenda in the frame of abiding by the constitution, said the office in the statement.

Moreover, Talabani emphasized the implementation of the constitution’s national points that have been established in the government’s agenda, the office in the statement added.

In the meantime, Talabani called on the Prime Minister to send the financial entailments of the Kurdistan Region.

The statement also stated that Talabani has also reiterated the Region’s desire for inherent resolution of the outstanding issues with Baghdad, calling to enhance the dedicated committees of the negotiations, and playing leniency before the people’s demands.

Moreover, in return, Prime Minister Sudani assured Talabani that the rights and financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region will be protected and the 400 billion dinars will be sent to the region as soon as possible.

Last week, The Federal government decided to send 400 billion Iraqi dinars ($274 million) to the Region for the months of November and December.

The Federal government has allocated 400 billion as the Region’s share in the Federal budget to pay the salaries of public servants in the Kurdistan Region.
