SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Justice Group (KJG) on Friday announced it will withdraw from the provincial councils and the Regional parliament.

The KJG leader Ali Baper released a statement earlier on Friday following a general meeting of his party.

“We decided to withdraw our all representatives in the Kurdistan parliament, provincial councils, including the Sulaimani local government,” He said in the statement.

He cited delaying the Regional elections and the “unavoidable” extension of the 5th parliamentary term of the Kurdistan parliament as the reason for issuing the motion by the KJG.

“Serious existential threats emerged on the Kurdistan Region due to problems and crises,” He added.

In December last year, the Kurdistan Parliament voted to extend its 5th parliamentary term. The Region had supposed to hold elections on October 1st, 2022, as the parliamentary elections are held every four years.

“The Sulaimani local government and the provincial councils’  legal term have expired as well,” He continued.
