SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Two oil wells were bombed inside a small oilfield on Wednesday, security sources said.

Iraqi media cited security sources as saying that Islamic State (ISIS) militants had bombed two oil wells in Khabaz oilfield, 20 km southwest of Kirkuk.

Oil officials and security sources told Reuters that firefighters were working to put out the flames.

The field produces about 25,000 barrels per day, oil officials said.

Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December 2017 but the militants have regrouped in the Hamrin mountain range which extends into the northern provinces – an area described by officials as a “triangle of death”.
