SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Commando Forces Commander Akam Omar was laid to rest in his birthplace Erbil on Saturday.
After a large funeral ceremony attended by President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani and officials from the Peshmerga forces, government, political parties, and representatives of foreign military missions, the late commander Akam was buried at Sheikh Ahmed cemetery.
Commander of the Kurdistan Commando Fores, Akam Omar, died on Monday, aged 36, in Germany where he had been under medical care.
The commander died from wounds sustained in an IED blast amid an anti-ISIS operation in late October in Sulaimani’s Garmian Zenana area.
Kurdish leaders and military elites paid their respects to the late Commander.
Erbil-Born Commander Akam used to be the chief of the Commando Forces since its early formation in coordination with the U.S.-led coalition forces in 2015 in the midst of the ISIS war across Iraq.
Kurdistan Commando Forces is a special force affiliated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), it played a major role during the Islamic State war, receiving training from the U.S.-led collation forces, particularly France and Germany.
They are well-equipped and trained forces, in comparison to other forces, they have more own advanced weapons and military armored vehicles including tanks as well as non-combat helicopters.
