Iraqi PM meets with Iranian President in Tehran

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al Sudani arrived in Tehran on Tuesday following an invitation by President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi.

PM Sudani who is in the Iranian capital for an official visit was initially received by Iran’s Raisi at the Saadabad Palace there, said the Iraqi New Agency (INA).

In a meeting with Raisi, Sudani discussed different aspects of ties between both countries in various fields, according to INA. They stressed that Iraq’s relationship with the Islamic Republic is “strong, deeply rooted and historical.”

“Iraq’s status is essential for ensuring peace and stability in the region, and stability is the responsibility of the governments of the countries of the region,” said Raisi in a joint press conference with Iraqi’s Sudani following the meeting.

“The presence of foreign forces in the region increases security risks,” he added. Meanwhile, following Raisi’s words, PM Sudani confirmed that they will not allow the use of Iraqi territory to “threaten” Iran’s security.

INA further said that PM Sudani is set to meet with the Iranian Supreme leader Ali Khamenei as well.
