SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi security forces killed a suicide bomber trying to enter the building of National Security Directorate in Kirkuk on Thursday, the Iraqi military said.

Iraqi Security Media Cell said the security forces shot dead the suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt as he was trying to enter the National Security Directorate in Kirkuk on Wednesday morning.

The explosive belt exploded as a result of shooting, wounding two members of the security forces slightly, the Iraqi military said in a statement.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack, but Islamic State (ISIS) militants are believed to stage such attacks.

Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December 2017 but the militants have regrouped in the Hamrin mountain range which extends into the northern provinces – an area described by officials as a “triangle of death”.
