SULAIMANI (ESTA) — President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani hosted a summit meeting between top Iraqi leaders Monday night in the Iraqi capital where the participants stressed the protection of Iraq’s sovereignty, according to a press release.
President Talabani in Baghdad hosted top Iraqi Sunni as well as Shiite leaders in Mam Jalal Palace which was also attended by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al Sudani and Parliamentary Speaker Mohammed al Halbousi.
The leaders were from Iraq’s State Administration Coalition, a body that recently formed, comprising all Iraqi political parties. Together in a meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the national, regional, and international arena, the press release added.
It also revealed that further meeting on a high level is currently on the way, aiming at preventing violation of Iraq’s sovereignty by any external party.
“Iraq will make a serious effort to prevent the use of its territory as a base to disrupt neighboring countries’ stability,” it said.
Discussions also touched upon filling the ministerial positions of the Environment Ministry and the Construction Ministry. Both positions have remained vacant since the formation of the new Iraqi government back in October this year.
Apart from this, the summit meeting discussed a “multi-pronged” report regarding the electoral law of the Iraqi parliament and provincial elections law, the press release continued without further elaboration.
