SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region should reach an agreement with the federal government to improve people’s livelihood, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran) said on Monday.
A PUK delegation led by Co-leader Bafel Talabani met with Gorran officials including General Coordinator Omer Said Ali earlier on Monday.
Head of PUK’s relations office Soran Jamal Tahir said both parties agreed that a solution be found to the issue of public servants’ salaries and disputes with Baghdad during a tripartite meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
Gorran Spokesman Adnan Othman told reporters that Tuesday’s tripartite meeting between PUK, Change Movement and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) would be about employees’ payment, the Region’s budget and an agreement with Baghdad.
“We are determined that an agreement must be reached with Baghdad to secure the Region’s budget and [employees] salaries and to improve people’s livings, because there is no other way other than agreement,” Othman said.
“The Region must reach an agreement with Baghdad because the situation is going to worsen. The region is on fire,” he added.
The PUK and Gorran meeting came one day after a delegation from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) visited the PUK and Gorran in Sulaimani.
In a joint statement, the PUK and KDP said they would hold a tripartite meeting in the Kurdistan Region Presidency on Tuesday.
