SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Monday in “strongest terms” condemned last night’s Iranian attack on the Region, urging partners to take a clear position on Iran’s continued “aggression”.
KRG released a statement following a bombing by Iran after another time it targeted Kurdish dissidents’ bases across the Region in the early hours of Monday.
“We condemn the Islamic Republic of Iran’s attack on the Kurdistan Region last night in the strongest terms,” KRG said in the statement.
“Iran’s repeated violations of the sovereignty of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq are inexcusable and a gross infringement of international law and neighborly relations,” it added.
“We call on the Republic of Iran to stop this violent campaign against the Kurdistan Region. Stability will never be achieved through violence.”
Moreover, KRG called on its “friends” and “partners” in Baghdad, the United Nations, and the international community to take a clear and principled position on Iran’s continued “aggression”.
Iranian bomb-laden drones and missiles targeted the headquarters of dissident groups in the Region last night outside of Erbil and Sulaimani as well as in Koya.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have attacked Iranian Kurdish militant opposition bases in the Kurdistan Region since the death of Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini on Sept. 16 triggered nationwide unrest.
Last night’s Iranian attack marked the third on the Kurdistan Region during the last two months with keep renewing threats to eradicate the Kurdish opposition groups there by using force.
Iran has accused Kurdish opposition militants of fomenting the unrest and threatened strikes against armed Iranian Kurdish dissidents.
