SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iran has once again attacked Kurdish opposition bases Monday in the Kurdistan Region which resulted in dozens of casualties.
In the early hours of the morning, several Iranian missiles hit a Kurdish Iranian dissident party headquarters, the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) in the city of Koya near the capital of the Region, Erbil.
The Region’s Health Ministry confirmed that at least 8 people were injured and another was killed due to the attack in Koya.
Footage circulated on social media that students have evacuated the schools since the attack was carried out in the midst of attending classes to avoid being harmed.
Semi-official Iran’s Fars News agency said the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had been behind the attack, which it said targeted “terrorist groups” with missiles and drones.
Similar attacks occurred on Komala headquarters in Sulaimani province immediately after PDKI was targeted.
The attack on Komala HQ did not cause any casualties but the site has been destroyed, a source told Esta.
Iran has repeatedly attacked Kurdish opposition bases in the Kurdistan Region, blaming the opposition militants for inciting the ongoing unrest which has gripped the country since the death of Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini on September 16.
At least 13 people were killed and over 50 injured back in September this year during similar events for which IRGC officially claimed responsibility.
