SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Local Security forces in Erbil captured the head of guards of a former senior Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official on Friday, Esta Media Network has learned.

According to information obtained by Esta two security vehicles in Erbil’s Barzan area captured Farid Abdulaziz,  the head of guards of Sheikh Adham Barzani, a veteran Kurdish politician and former senior official of the KDP.

Officials have yet to comment, no statement has been made so far. However, the currently available information said Abdulaziz has been taken to Erbil’s Mergasour sub-district by the forces.

The status of Abdulaziz is remained unclear.

Barzani, whose chief of his guards has been captured, has held several senior positions in the ranks of the KDP and was the former President of the KDP leadership council in Sulaimani.

In a “protest” to the KDP policies, Barzani announced his resignation from the party in April 2021.

A while back, in October amid a meeting with President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Jalal Talabani, Barzani announced that he wants to open his headquarters in Sulaimani.
