Iraq’s Ministry of Communications decides to block pornographic websites

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Communications Ministry of Iraq on Friday decided to block all pornographic websites across the country.

The Iraqi News Agency (INA) cited a statement from the Ministry as saying that “the Minister of Communications, Hiyam al-Yasiri, directed the blocking of pornographic websites.”

INA did not reach the very details of the decision.

The Semi-official Iraqi Newspaper of Al-Sabah said the Minister has tasked a dedicated committee to block pornographic websites.

So far, the committee has blocked 400 websites during the past 24 hours, Al-Sabah said. The Minister has previously attempted to put censors on pornographic websites but it was not gone into effect, it added.

However, the decision is currently undertaking by the committee, according to Al-Sabah.

Back then, in August, the Kurdistan Region Minister of Communications initiated the “Family package” for internet users which made children unable to reach adult-contented websites as a preventative measure for the same purpose.
