SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region Deputy of the Prime Minister on Tuesday said since he took the office they succeeded over overwhelming challenges and obstacles amid his duty as the Region’s primer.
It is worth mentioning that Erbil hosted the first day of The Middle East Research Institute (MERI) forum which lasts for two days.
The first day of the forum was attended by dozens of local and international leaders and experts and during which they addressed the various political, security, economic, and environmental challenges currently facing Iraq.
The same scenes are expected for the next day of the MERI forum.
Taking a part in the wide-known panel, and Speaking about the administration challenges and governance in overall Iraq including the Kurdistan Region, Deputy Premier said: “They are overwhelming”.
“Many discussions have been taken on how the government must be formed and how to serve the people,” and “all of us must make our works by taking account of all side’s interests,” Talabani said.
“Government needs to make decisions, and must realize how it will achieve its interests.”
Talabani also pointed out the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) current cabinet, about the way how it dealt with the corruption dossier.
“We have made as many as efforts, stressed reforms to uproot corruption,” Talabani added.
The KRG has faced overwhelming “complexities” but it could overcome them and proceed, according to Talabani’s words.
“The crises have made us have a tendency toward thinking about reform, and go further”
Moreover, Talabani elaborated on the KRG’s efforts to diversify the Region’s economy, departing oil as the sole source of revenue.
Over the past two decades, the Kurdistan Region’s economy had been heavily reliant on the oil and gas sector, which has driven the Region’s development.
“We are currently in the attempt not to rely on oil as our source of revenue, instead find additional sources, we need to take serious efforts for that reason,” he continued.
Laying emphasis on carrying out reforms Talabani added “Since the very beginning we had attention on fundamental reforms.”
“In the government, we must be the back for each other, no matter who is in office if we support the government we can pass the challenges.”
Talabani did not hide that everyone is paying attention to the government reforms but no one has ever commented on the reforms within political parties.
“They also require reforms,” he quoted.
“We must understand what are the programs and ideologies of the political parties, there must be a balance between politics and politicians.”
