PUK President, senior U.S. delegation discuss political, security situation of Iraq, Rojava

PUK President Bafel Talabani received a high Representative of the U.S. government for northern and eastern Syria, Nicholas Grainger, and his accompanying delegation in Erbil. 

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Bafel Jalal Talabani received a high-ranking U.S. delegation, on Wednesday in Erbil. 

PUK President Bafel Talabani received a high Representative of the U.S. government for northern and eastern Syria, Nicholas Grainger, and his accompanying delegation in Erbil.

In a meeting that took place at the PUK politburo headquarter both sides discussed a wide range of topics related to Syria and Iraq, according to a statement from Talabani’s office.

The meeting was attended by U.S. Consul General Irvin Hicks Jr while from the PUK’s side Darbaz Kosart Rasul, the politburo administrator, Director of the protection and information/information agency Jalal Sheikh Naji, and General Director of the Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism forces Wahab Halabjai were joined.

The meeting touched upon the latest political developments in the region, coordination between the Kurdistan Region forces, Iraq, and collation forces, particularly with the U.S. forces, the statement said.

It also emphasized the importance and continuity of the coordination between the Region’s forces and the U.S.-led collation to combat the Islamic State remnants and protect security and stability in the region.

During the meeting President Talabani pointed out to the political situation of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, saying the efforts to unite the Kurdish house are continuing.

“Improving the Region’s situation in variation fields and enduring the reforms will be our priority,” Talabani laid emphasis.

“Our goal is to compromise and reconstruct a new program so that all of together can serve our nation,” he said.

He also referred to the ongoing political deadlock in Iraq and PUK’s endeavors to pass the challenges.

“All of our steps are going in the direction of dialogue and understanding between all political parties with abiding by the constitution, real partnership, and protecting the rights of nations and components. We have asked everyone to carry responsibility before the sensitivity of the situation and consider the future of the country,” Talabani told the high-ranking U.S. delegation.

Another topic of the meeting was the political and security issues of Rojava, both sides stressed political solutions and uniting all efforts for the sake of combating terrorism and protecting the region’s tranquility.
