SULAIMANI (ESTA) —Iraq’s representative called on the United Nations Security Council to support the county’s sovereignty and condemn the aggression on its lands, the state news agency on Tuesday reported.
The United Nations Security Council held a special session on Iraq, focusing on the internal issues and the recent attacks from Iran.
The representative of Iraq, Muhammad Bahr Al-Uloum told the council that the political parties have engaged in “constructive dialogue” over the new government formation.
“The stalemate in the political process delayed the formation of the new government and the political forces entered into a constructive and serious dialogue to reach understandings.
Bahr Al-Uloum addressed the assembly about the Iranian attacks on the Kurdistan Region, the Iraqi News Agency said.
“The Iranian bombing led to the martyrdom of Iraqis and threatened the population, and we handed the Tehran ambassador in Baghdad a protest,” he said.
“We call on the Security Council to support Iraq’s sovereignty and condemn any external aggression from any side,” he added.
Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) struck Kurdish opposition bases in the Kurdistan Region last week, killing 13 dissidents and injuring 58.
The attack was carried out by kamikaze drones and ballistic missiles. Since then Iran has increased attacks on sites in the Kurdistan Region territory.
“This operation will continue with our full determination until the threat is effectively repelled, terrorist group bases are dismantled, and the authorities of the Kurdish region assume their obligations and responsibilities,” the Guards said in a statement read on state television following last week’s attack.
